Nonfiction vs. Fiction

Last week our class began learning about the differences of nonfiction and fiction texts. After we thought and charted the things we already know about nonfiction texts, the class used Scholastic Book Club Flyers to cut out fiction and nonfiction books. Using a t-chart, they sorted the books into the column they belonged under. This was an activity that My friend Becky did with her class, so the credit for creativity goes to her! The whole class was really into this project and the discussions the kids were having about why the book belonged under the nonfiction column or fiction column were amazing coming from first graders! Here are their finished products...

At home you and your child can sort their books into nonfiction and fiction!
