A Day in China

Today the kids walked into our classroom to find that all of their desks had been lowered as low as they would go, they didn't have chairs, and needed to use the pillows they brought to school to sit or kneel on. Chinese music was playing. :) We read as many books as we could that taught them about the Chinese culture, we even worked on our own book to take home. Reese and Michelle D. gave Chinese lessons. They taught us how to say hello, friend, thank you and how to count 1-10 in Chinese. We had fortune cookies and then ended our day with trying to eat Chow Mein Noodles with chopsticks. After they tried that I gave them popcorn to try with chopsticks. Michelle D. willingly walked around and provided one on one chopstick instructions. We also watched Wild China and learned about several animals that live in China, my favorite was learning about the cormorants who fished for the fishermen. Check it out on Netflix. :)

We also popped our next balloon to reveal what we will be doing on Tuesday....

On Tuesday, May 26, we will be Making Memories.

9 More Days!

We are ending the school year with daily surprises in balloons! At the end of each day, one student will pop the balloon with that date on it and another student will read the secret message inside. The message inside will tell the students what they can look forward to the following school day! What a great way to get excited about our last days!

Michelle D. popped the balloon for us!

Kate read the secrete message aloud to our class!
Tomorrow we will spend the day as if we are in China. Kate's face says it all... CHINA!!!!

This morning when they walk in, their desks will be as low as they can go, they will sit on pillows or their knees all day.
We will research China, eat chow mein noodles with chopsticks, and if that doesn't work I have popcorn for them to try to eat with chopsticks. :) Looking forward to a great day!

Tamales from Dario

Dario's mom made us tamales today! each one wrapped in a corn husk. The kids were so excited to try them, and they loved them! Many were begging Dario to have his mother make us more! :)

Thank you Mrs. Becerra for the tamales! You made our day!
